Simmering Potpourri

Oranges & Lemons Scent for the HolidaysThe holiday season is here, and with that will be the inevitable arrival of guests.  Whether it is a neighbor dropping off cookies or family descending upon your house-people will be flocking to your home.  What better way to greet your guests than having an inviting aroma filling your home.  Here is a simple potpourri passed down to me from my mother-in-law that I am passing on to you!

Add to 1 quart cold water in a pan:

Peel of two lemons (or 2 Tbls. dried lemon peels) Peel of two oranges (or 2 Tbls. dried orange peels)
2-3 bay leaves 3-4 cinnamon sticks
1/4 cup whole cloves 1 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Simmer on low heat or put in a potpourri pot.  Add more water as needed.

At the end of the day when the potpourri is not in use, simply cover and store in the refrigerator until you need it.  It should last for several days.  Enjoy!
