As a new momma I quickly discovered that “beautification time” was one of the first things to fall off the priority list. I am learning how to streamline my morning routine so I decided to share the things I simply can’t live without. Hopefully they can help make the mad dash in the morning easier for one of you.
Here’s a list of my go-to’s for speedy basic beauty:
Number 5 – Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm in Hibiscus. I’ve been a die hard Burt’s Bees lip balm fan since I lived in Idaho and was exposed to extreme weather for the first time in my life. Now I can’t go four hours without applying it. The tint makes me feel pretty while still keeping my lips happy. Also when I kiss my baby boy it doesn’t leave lipstick marks.
Number 4 – Clinique Lash Doubling Mascara. This is the only mascara I’ve found that lasts all day but washes off, with just face wash, without giving me raccoon eyes. Because the last thing I need to worry about is if I’m going to scare my baby next time I nurse him because I look like I have a black eye.
Number 3 – Bare Minerals Matte Foundation. I’ve been a believer of Bare Escentuals for a very long time. The Matte foundation keeps my nose from getting shiny so fast. It also has SPF 15 so I feel protected every time I got out (when I get the chance to go out).
Number 2 – John Frieda Dream Curls Spray. A few squirts of this bad boy, hit it with two minutes of the diffuser, and you’ve got waves that will last all day but aren’t crunchy. Hubby does not like crunchy curls.
Number 1 – Clarisonic Skin Cleansing System. I have good genes (thanks Grandma C!) but they came with acne troubles. I fought acne all throughout adolescence. I was on some pretty hefty medicine, diligently stuck to my topical cream regimen, was getting chemical peels bimonthly, and still had oily skin and breakouts. The Clarisonic cured it all. It’s a bit pricey, although now they have smaller systems that are more affordable, but they last. I have had mine for four years and it’s still going strong. My pores are smaller and my skin tone even. I use it everyday and it keeps my “mommy glow” glowing all day (and night) long.
So there you have it! I’m learning that it’s very important for me to feel pretty- although that’s difficult to balance with the demands of a newborn. These five items help me stay on top of it.
Jennika! I love it! I like the way you write =)
